Asociación Juan Pablo Magno

Asociación Juan Pablo Magno (AJPM) is an orphanage located on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. Home to 65 children, AJPM is a leader in orphan care in Peru and all of South America.

In 2000, AJPM made the change from an institution to a family-based orphanage. That same year, it implemented the Boys Town Program, and since has seen tremendous growth of its children and staff. The children have gone from a 61% to 93% grade passing rate, and the number of alumni enrolled in higher education has gone from 2% to 35% in less than ten years. Furthermore, staff training has increased and turnover decreased, providing greater stability to the children.

Aside from its successful methodology, AJPM operates a program that focuses on youth as they prepare to leave. Throughout this program, the youth are accompanied as they face the fears and challenges of leaving home and beginning life on their own. There is a full-time staff member that checks up on the youth after they've left and works with them on educational scholarships and work opportunities. In addition, AJPM organizes and hosts annual alumni reunions for the youth that have left. AJPM has reached the covenantal level that symbolizes the true sonship relation between a parent and son. The youth are encouraged to visit and return at any point they desire or when they may need help.

AJPM has also continually proved itself to be transparent and responsible in financial and managerial matters. Such accountability is another differentiating factor between AJMP and other orphanages. Investments are made with quality, lasting, and superior results for the children in mind.
