Philip and Timothy Stains Memorial Children Homes (PTSMCH)
Philip and Timothy Stains Memorial Children Homes (PTSMCH) was founded in 1999 by David Gnaniah to care for orphaned and semi-orphaned children in the state of Tamilnadu, India. PTSMCH began with the support of the local population, mainly Christians. The first home was a building rented in the city of Madurai to house 10 children.
PTSMCH is greatly supported by members of the United Methodist Church. In 2000, PTSMCH gained the support of Pastor Sam Royappa and his church, Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, in West Bend, Wisconsin. To date, the faithful of this church support PTSMCH through collections for the mission. In 2005, a mission team from Wisconsin visited the PTSMCH and as a result, a donation was given to build a home for girls.
Currently, there are four homes in four locations that comprise the care for 116 children at PTSMCH. Homes are located in the city of Madurai, in Eriyur, in the village of Mannavanoor and in the hill station of Ooty.
PTSMCH is beginning the lengthy process of transitioning to a family-based model of care and has chosen membership with CAN in order to receive guidance through this difficult process.
